Sunday September 19th 2010 - The Armageddon Kitty at the 2010 Estes Park
Film Festival!
Estes Park Film Festival Wrap Up By Eileen | October 18th, 2010
The TMDFilms short comedy The Armageddon Kitty premiered last month at the 5th Annual Estes Park Film Festival. The festival took place September 17-19 at the beautiful Historic Park Theatre, the oldest operating movie theatre west of the Mississippi.
There were so many wonderful things about this festival that I thought I would list them off, in no particular order:
* The Historic Park Theatre is absolutely amazing. Built in 1913, it has the distinction of being the oldest operating movie theatre west of the Mississippi. The theatre has been beautifully renovated and maintained over the years. It's amazing that the theatre is still standing - a fire in the Park Theatre Mall in October 2009 destroyed the building next door but spared the theatre, and I'm so glad it did, because the theatre is absolutely amazing and hopefully will continue to be an Estes Park landmark for many, many, many years to come. The screening itself went off without a hitch and outranked theatres we've previously screen at that are a fraction of it's age - our film was played on blu-ray and projected by a Sony VPL-FH300L high definition digital projector, which marks the
first and only time I have ever seen one of my films on the big screen in all it's high def glory.
* The films. There were some really great films selected this year, and it was truly an honor to have The Armageddon Kitty selected to screen alongside them. My favorite of the fest, hands down, was Kathleen Man's Lychee Thieves, the very deserving winner of the festivals award for Best Short. The beautifully shot, expertly woven tale of the prized lychee fruit and the people who seek it is a wonderful, truly enjoyable piece, and I encourage anyone with an appreciation for filmmaking to check it out.
* The brownie in the filmmaker swag bag was so good, I fear no other brownie will ever satisfy me again. Ever.
* The festival concluded Sunday night with a closing party (featuring lots of good food and good people having good conversations) and the presentation of the festival's Lifetime Achievement Award to one of Hollywood's greatest character actors, Art LaFleur. After a film retrospective of his film and television work from his many years in Hollywood we were treated to a lengthy Q&A session with the legendary actor that was truly one of the best I've ever attended. Mr. LaFleur was kind, funny and charming, and having the opportunity to meet him and hear him speak on the art of acting and filmmaking was a truly unique experience unlike any I've ever had a film festival.
This was truly one of the most enjoyable experiences I have had a film festival. I highly encourage anyone with a film on the festival circuit to check them out next year!
